Cat was taking a nap when Sis entered the room, and awoke with a start, eager to share an over view of all the glorious things she’d seen during the island excursion. If only they were on speaking terms again. Cat knew that silence was not the way to go, so she decided to pretend everything was fine again.

“One more dive, and I’ll be ready to leave tomorrow—if that’s cool with you guys.”

“Yeah,” said Sis, looking sheepish. “Hey, I, uh, want to apologize for last night.”

Cat could hardly believe her ears. Sis had never apologized for anything in her entire life. It made Cat want to hug her, but she knew that would be too much for Sis. “I’m just sorry you feel the way you do,” Cat offered instead.

“I don’t feel that way about you,” acknowledged Sis. “I mean, some of what I said is true, but I have been looking forward to this trip since the day you asked me. I feel bad now that I invited Rey, and I’m sorry.”

Cat was gobsmacked by this admission. It was the first time Sis had said anything remotely remorseful, and Cat almost felt bad for Sis’s obvious discomfort. “I’m not sorry she came,” said Cat, and she meant it. “I just hope we can spend some quality time alone together at some point. I think we need to talk a little more about some of the things you said last night.”

“How about we go to dinner tonight—just the two of us,” Sis proposed.

“Sounds perfect,” said Cat. “I’ll buy.”

“I wouldn’t have it any other way,” Sis said with a smile. Cat was about to go for a hug, despite her better judgment, when Rey came through the door wearing a brand new Harley-style jacket.
